Welcome to Karekare Recording..... and one of the most beautiful places in the world, Karekare Beach, Auckland, New Zealand. Twenty-five years ago I decided to live on this land for the rest of my life. I planted 16,000 trees and with the help of many friends, designed and built a home that was also dedicated to being a multi-purpose performance space.

To the thousands of you that have been here, welcome again. To those who are to come, welcome to the grand adventure. These days, with my great friend Ollivier "Le Gaze" Ballester, we have decided to concentrate on the recording of live music, using premium digital recording equipment to achieve the immediacy of the 1950's style live performance. The studio imparts a vitality to the sound that current studio design and practises lack. It also makes for fast track laying and a restraint to the mixing process. This places greater onus on the musicians and us and is faster and therefore more cost effective.

We believe in respect, truth, beauty, privacy and dedication. We also believe that recording is a collective experience and a rare opportunity in life to achieve something together without distractions. Your mobile won't work out here but your heart will.
